Dolton is a quiet village in Devon with old thatched cottages dotted about country lanes, positioned in a valley close to the River Torridge and is home to 900 people. The patchwork greens of the countryside entices walkers and cyclists unashamedly, the area has much to share, the hardest thing of all is what to do first, perhaps the thought of two thousand roses in bloom, or the delicious scents from a herb garden, woodland walks, and a Lake will tempt a visit to the RHS Rosemoor Garden, time it right and share the Beatrix Potter Exhibition‡”. Or be prepared to be dazzled at the kaleidoscopic colours on display at Winsford Walled Garden which is host to stunning summer flowers. Nearby is Cobbaton Combat Collection, a Military Museum crammed to the gills with evocative exhibits ranging from Tanks, Guns, Grenades, Gas Masks and even Ration Books. If a little interesting shopping is desired Dartington Glass and Crystal Factory offers a chance to see the craftsmanship involved in all of the pieces made there. Or once you have seen the fascinating Bee Colonies hard at work at Quince Honey Farm an understanding of the mystery from Bee to Jar is unravelled.
