| Events in Hopwood | 10 Places to Stay

Although only minutes from the edge of resurgent Birmingham, with all the entertainment and retail facilities that entails, Hopwood is in pleasantly leafy country, as the fact that there are no fewer than three 18-hole golf courses within a couple of miles of the place testifies. The settlement is easily reached via junction 2 of the M42, though it was the canal network – more particularly its location on the Worcester – Birmingham Canal that is said to have been the original seed of the community. It has a large country hotel with a well-regarded restaurant, favoured by visitors to the cricket at Birmingham – Hopwood lies on the main road into Edgbaston. Just two miles east of Hopwood is the Wythall Transport Museum, which celebrates Birmingham’s part in our transport history. Equally close to the west is Longbridge, now to all intents and purposes also condemned to be part of that history. With the M42 just a mile-and-a-half distant Hopwood provides a convenient place to explore England’s second city whose centre has boomed over the last few years, as famed now for fine-dining as for its wonderful Balti Belt.
