Mortimer is a village in Berkshire, the pretty countryside is embraced by Starvale Woods and Holden Firs where a flint axe dating back 20,000 years was found together with Bronze Age Burrows. Close by is Silchester Roman City Walls and Amphitheatre, some of the finds are at Reading Museum. Or maybe a trip to Tames Valley Police Museum that houses uniforms, truncheons and things from the Great Train Robbery, or there is always Englefield Tudor House and Gardens where a battle was fought behind the house by Saxons and Danes, there is definitely more than one reason to visit Mortimer.
