Dirleton is a beautiful village in East Lothian in Scotland 2 miles south-west of North Berwick and two miles east of Gullane. The main attraction is the impressive ruins of Dirleton Castle, in the care of Historic Scotland this romantic 13th century castle stands on a platform of natural rock with many features including the doocot, its Victorian Garden with a variety of scented flowers and plants and the world’s longest herbaceous border. The village is built around the picturesque village green with neat rows of little cottages. Dirleton Kirk was built in 1612 on the north-west corner of the green, it has interesting stained glass designs and a cross-aisle thought to be the first example of neo-classical design in Scotland. Dirleton has been described as ‘Scotland’s prettiest village’ it is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base for exploring the Lothians, Edinburgh and North Berwick, there are a selection of places to stay and a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. The Scottish Archery Centre has activities including archery, crossbow, air-rifle and air-pistol shooting. The Myreton Motor Museum has fascinating displays of the history of motoring. Nearby is Yellowcraigs beach with panoramic coastal views over to the island of Fidra
