Events in Kyles Of Bute | 10 Places to Stay
The Kyles of Bute is the sea channel situated at the northern end of the Isle of Bute in the River Clyde and between the mainland villages of Colintraive, Kames and Tighnabruaich, in Argyll and Bute on the Cowal Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland.
The picturesque Kyles are a designated National Scenic Area and a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches and shoreline walks, there are hotels, holiday accommodation, pubs, shops and plenty places to eat in the area.
Boat-tours are an excellent way to explore the Kyles, there is a sailing school in the village of Tighnabruaich offering courses in sailing, windsurfing and power boating. Clyde Steamers regularly cruise the Kyles including the tourist attraction, The Waverly, a replica of the 1940 original and the last sea going paddle steamer.
There are ferry links to the Isle of Bute to the main town Rothesay from Wemyss Bay on the Clyde coast and a smaller ferry from Rhubodach at the north end of Bute to Colintraive in Cowal.
Bute has many archaeological and historical sites including chambered cairns, standing stones, an Iron Age fort at Dunagoil and the 12th century Rothesay Castle.
Activities offered around the Cowal Peninsula include clay-pigeon shooting, quad-biking, boat-trips, canoeing, scuba-diving, walking tours, cycle routes, fishing and golfing; with a course on Bute and another in Kames.
