Tonypandy is an interesting town nestling in the Rhondda Fawr Valley in Wales, and is home to nearly three and a half thousand people. The town dates far back in time and saw Bronze, and Iron Age Settlers arrive here, both of which have left their mark with Cairns and the remains of a settlement nearby. Mining has played a pivotal role which changed the lives of many, the town is perhaps remembered for the riots which erupted when Miners went on strike over their pay. When the riots escalated and were deemed to have got out of control, hundreds of police and even a regiment of Hussars were drafted into the town to take control in 1910. Today the town is a quiet place which offers visitors a glimpse at its past with a stroll down Dunraven street leading to a fabulous pedestrianised Shopping Centre which is the largest shopping centre in the Rhondda. There is an interesting, and varied mix of architecture within the town with a wealth of Victorian elegance in the centre, restaurants in abundance, and a range of pubs to enjoy a must after a walk in the rugged and dramatic countryside surrounding the town.
