Located in the North West of England and not far from Manchester Sale can trace its roots back to prehistoric origins although it is fair to say that as a settlement it was the Romans who made first use of the town. Sale lies in the Mersey Valley and because of its location was primarily involved in farming, in its early days taking on board weaving as an industry around the time of the construction of the Bridgewater Canal and the construction of the canal provided a communications link for both people and goods thus contributing to the growth of Sale. The Victorian era was good for Sale and its new wealth, it saw the opening of new schools, the introduction of street lighting and the opening of a new library which is still in evidence today. Sale is relatively close to the cosmopolitan City of Manchester, around five miles away, and the opening of the Metrolink system offering transport direct to Manchester City Centre from Sale has further enhanced Sale as a location to live. As well as the pedestrianised shopping area Sale also boats a major supermarket and national and traditional shopping facilities. As would be expected road and rail links to the rest of the country from the Cheshire town are very good and yet residents can enjoy many local facilities on their doorstep.
