Holyhead
Did you know that Holyhead County School was Britain’s first comprehensive school when it amalgamated Holyhead Grammar and St Cybi Central School in 1949? Its new Headmaster, Trefor Lovett, was an enthusiast for and pioneer of the comprehensive ideal. The two existing schools adjoined, making the logistics of the union relatively simple.
Llangefni
Did you know the A5114 running just 2 miles from Llangefni to the A5 and junction 6 of the A55 is the shortest plain A-Road in Britain? That is still a mighty thoroughfare compared with the shortest street in Britain – Tolbooth Street in Falkirk , just 5 feet long. And plenty bigger still than the shortest motorway – the A635(M) in Manchester which is less than 1000 feet.
