Did you know the Sweet Track just outside Glastonbury dates from 3800BC and is the oldest engineered roadway in the world? What are now the Somerset Levels was a boggy forest, and this track was built of ash, lime and oak laid to create a timber causeway joining the edge of the marshland with an island over a mile away to allow a safe crossing place. It was rediscovered in 1970.
