William Hooker

Died on 12th of August 1865
Hooker, educated at Norwich School, turned from entomology and ornithology to botany, financing his own expeditions to Iceland and the Continent. He became professor of botany at Glasgow, was instrumental in the foundation of the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, and was made director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
