Place was highly recommended by a local bloke who said the food was excellent. Hadn't been there for over 15 years for one reason or another so decided to have a look.
The landlord was hostile and unwelcoming. Asked to try a real ale he just grunted, poured a bit and banged it down on the bar. We stayed for one drink and he seemed to treat most of his customers with similar contempt.
Might pop back in another 15 years or so.

Arrived at The Bluebell at 1245 but an unfriendly welcome was a poor start. We tried to have lunch but restaurant was full, so asked for a bar snack as shown on the menu but no - nothing available! Excuse no time! Beer OK! We shall not return sadly.

We have visited this pub many times up to now (5/11) and the staff are friendly and helpful, plus there is a real feel of an old, community pub. Inside is warm and welcoming. Sunday lunch is great, and it is nice to see that the local people, especially the older ones, are given their own table, and are greeted by name.

We love this pub. It is a traditional English Pub, with lovely stone walls and fireplaces. It isn't trying to be some sort of gastro pub, the food is great (especially the homemade fish pie) and reasonable prices. We would recommend The Bluebell. It has had many owners in the last few years hopefully the current owners will be there for good!!

The Blue Bell has had a series of highs and lows over the last 4 years I've known it, but despite nice decour, good pub food and apparent bustle, it has little to commend. In short, the staff spoil the Blue Bell experience. The less than cheerful barman directed us to a reserved table in the corner, but no sooner had we settled down with our drinks we were told rather shortly by who appeared to be the restaurant manager to move to the reserved table in the other corner, adding that the barman should have told us which corner. After a half hour wait our order was taken, and I asked for a wine list. "No" was the restaurant manager's brusque reply, "you go to the bast for wine". Finally, when the food arrived, I noticed that tomato was missing from my order. On asking the restaurant manager for my tomato, the rather suprising answer was "Do you really want it?". Well yes, that's why I ordered it! The Blue Bell is no longer on my good pubs to go to list.....
