The Dumbuck House Hotel has been closed for almost a year now with refurbishments going on after a devastating flood at the end of 2010.
Yesterday was the first re-opening and the hotel has transformed to say the least. Not only is the interior design beautiful with exquisite attention to detail but the operational changes that have been made to the running of the hotel are also evident.
After speaking with the owners yesterday it is obvious they have put a huge emphasis on finding a full new team of staff and new general and restaurant managers who have bags of experience in the customer care and hotelier industry. The staff present yesterday were in abundance and always on hand offering to make drinks or bringing out fresh and delicious samples of the brand new menu.
Before the flood I attended a wedding at the hotel under the previous management and it was an event to remember - the hotel has a fantastic reputation for weddings and I can only say that I'm more than excited to book my own wedding their for next year, especially under the new team who have made it clear they are wanting to make everyone's experience of the hotel a special one.
There is a Grand Opening of the hotel on Saturday the 3rd September 2011, I am certainly going to this event as well as the activities happening sound very exciting!
Anyone that is skeptical of the hotel should definitely come along and visit to see for themselves!!

I had arranged a vist to very much consider this hotel as my wedding venue i had had good experiences over 5 years ago with friends and family who had had their weddings their. As result was excited to go and visit after having got the pack and details on the venue. Having confirmed my date and time to see Annie we went for just before midday as agreed as their was a wedding taking place that day. We arrived a little early and the receptionist said we could go on through and take a look at the set up whilst we awaited annnie. 12 noon came and we had been waiting in the reception. A large man was fixing welcoming drinks into a triangle and looked miserable to say the least not acknowleding us in any way. That was of course until all of a sudden 12.10 annie marches passed us and the original receptionist said they were really sorry but they were not able to see us. All of a sudden the miserable man fixing drinks in the worst bar manner possible said " eh i am the general manager and i dont know about any booking to view the venue. I promptly stood up and said appreciate you are all busy in preperation of the forthcomming wedding party but we had driven some miles. He said in a very discouraging manner if you book a time to visit. even though we had done so already. I responded strongly" Well we will see about that". He had all the charm of a slug. I was appalled. I have just been diagonsed as having a brain tumor al beit benign and was so very much looking forward to booking the venue. If that was the GM attitude i am so so sorry for them and the people who own that hotel. It was disgusting customer service and would be delighted to sit down and discuss with them how poor their service was just to make sure no other person experiences what we did. Book the Dumbuck at your Pearl!!!!

Like the person before we had our wedding in the Dumbuck this year and were very disappointed.
The hotel has changed hands and James no longer owns it but the person who does seems no better.
While the service on the day was average (the only exceptions being my sister being told they didn't know we had veggies - which was untrue and my cousin, who is a chef, being told his chicken was cooked perfectley well when he could clearly tell it wasn't)the problem came at nightime.
Some of the staff who worked in the hotel stayed afetr their shift had finished and got really drunk, the person in charge was obviously annoyed and took it out on us, she was rude, unhelpful and patronising ( at one point she told me just to go to bed and calm down!).
I tried phoning my telephone banking, at two in the morning still in my wedding dress to stop the cheque I had written but it had already been cashed.
I met with the manager in the morning he agreed to refund the cost of our room for that night as I refused to stay there (and so he should have). I spoke to the assistane manager/ wedding coordinator that evening and was told they would like me to put it in writing anf they would most certainly deal with it.
I have since sent two recorded delivery letters to the owner, the manager and the assistant manager and have heard nothing back in almost five months!
For anyone who has already booked the hotel I hope it goes well for you but for anyone who hasn't I would strongly advise against it!

I held my wedding there last year and regret it.. the manager by the name of james if recall correctly had no people skills and put me under a great deal of stress on a day i was promised by the hotel would be stress free. the food was awful, most of my guests made comment on the vegetables being hard and the buffett and the reception was appauling. the chicken goujons were rock hard and sandwhiches unfresh. it was very hurried.
after returning from honeymoon i tried on several occassions to contact the owner only to be told he would call me back however he never. my parents also put their complaint in writing and heard nothing. nearly a year later i have had no word back, no apology and no compensation.

Was invited to eat at the Dumbuck House Hotel by a friend who is resident in Dumbarton. I live in Gibraltar. We had arrived far too early as we had driven in from Luss and were expecting to meet at 7.00 and it weas 5.00.
I was delighted at the friendly staff from the hotel receptionist to the waiters who made our short stay comfortable in every way The food was delicious too. Real scottish fare which is what we had been looking for.
