We passed the restaurant on our way into St Austell and decided to go back and have a meal. In my daughters words "it's official, this is the best meal ever" The host was very welcoming , food was delicious and definitely home made to a high standard. Very reasonably priced and catered well for vegetarians - my husband asked for the mushroom stroganoff recipe, it was that good! We will definitely visit again when next in the area.

During last week my husband and I stayed in St Austel on our holidays. We had a fantastic week the weather was kind to us and we travelled all over Cornwall and had some fantastic meals. We passed The Waterwheel on several occasions and my husband promised me a special meal there before we left to come home. On Wed the 17 we arrived , there was a party of about 10 people and two other couples ,we were told we would have to wait for our meal but we didn't mind that and got a drink. I ordered place and my husband a steak. When my fish arrived it was complete with head and tail which i do not like so they kindly removed these. The first mouthfuls of pure white fish were beautiful but then I noticed the fish was complete with lungs and stomach, this made me feel quite queazy also under the fish the plate had blood in the juices. I have eaten is some really expensive hotels but have never experienced this before, also it was served with roast potatoes and the salad consisted of some dried up lettuce and green beans , the bread rolls we ordered were dry and left a bitter taste in our mouths that lasted all the way back to our hotel. My husbands steak was tough (he asked for medium rare ) and the pepper sauce was so hot it spoilt the meal. This was supposed to be a special meal for my birthday but it was the worst and most expensive meal of the holiday , We told the people at our hotel who said you were not on their list and they would not be recommending you. Thankfully we went some were else the night after which up for the disastrous meal at The Waterwheel.
