We were so looking forward to our meal at The Sunflower, Peebles; coming as it did with recommendations from the chef at out favourite Restaurant 'The Three Chimneys', Skye.
The place was light and airy and tables not crowded together. As we sat down we were immediately conscious (we could hardly ignore it) of a one sided mobile phone conversation from one of the other diners. On and on he went with asides to the others at his table. Oh how important he must consider himself to speak so loudly to the detriment of others around him.
This went on through our starter dish and I was on the point of talking to the waiter when something stopped me - I suddenly realised that the fellow diners(?) at his table were in fact the Chef proprietor and her partner.
We were sorry to see her head off whilst we were awaiting our main course. This, when it came, was incredibly ordinary in flavour and presentation particularly after dining the previous night at Osso where we had been delighted with the whole experience.
Will we go back? Hardly!
