On 29th May 2008 I purchased a gift for my son for his 1st birthday. It required self assembly (a small wooden rocking horse).
The screws provided to hold the seat in place were too long, and because they were screwed in from underneath, came through the seat. Not the most comfortable thing to sit on!.
Item was duly returned yesterday evening (2nd June) to Metrocentre whereupon pleasant salesman made a full refund, as a replacement item was not in stock.
When asked if a replacement was going to be delivered and in stock shortly, I was told that the store had been allocated ONE which was in the warehouse and which "may be on the delivery for the store 'tomorrow'".
That's today at time of writing.
I was told to phone the store to check on delivery. When I asked if this could be kept for me as a replacement for the one previously purchased, I was told that they would only keep it if I phoned, if it was there, and if I came back to collect within 24 hours.
UNBELIEVABLE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Pleasant enough staff, but I live 18 miles from the store. Already been there to purchase item, went back to return it, then have to go back again within 24 hours to collect item to replace the one I had to return through no fault of my own.
I make that about 108 miles ... another £15 (IN TODAY'S DIESEL COSTS) on top of purchase price.
Ok, it's generally good stuff, if a bit expensive - but I won't be going back. Will be advising friends and family to buy presents elsewhere from now. Could run into a few hundred pounds over next few years.
Not bitter. Just think it was a missed opportunity to display a better level of customer care.
I can get better customer service in other places selling equally good children's stuff. Will probably get more value for money too.
The mistake was with THEIR product after all and I WAS prepared to have a replacement.
SORT IT OUT ELC. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS KEEP ME THE ITEM I ASKED FOR, AND WHICH, LET'S FACE IT, I'D ALREADY BOUGHT FROM YOU
