Hayfield is a delightful village on the River Sett, positioned in a valley in the Peak District in Derbyshire, home to just over two thousand people. The village has attractive limestone houses, and beautiful surrounding countryside known as the kinder Gateway. Walkers will refuse to stay indoors with the tapestry of greens, and the bracken, and heather covered Moors. Brave hearts may wish to climb to Kinder Scout, a high wind swept plateau, with dramatic views of the Kinder River as it cascades into a stunning waterfall. This rocky and craggy landscape is dramatic and a walkers delight. Explorers will love the four Castleton Underground Caves of Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peak Cavern, and the intriguing Blue John Cavern, where an ethereal journey unveils a mesmerising world of stalagmites and stalactites. Turn back the hands of time with Peveril Castle whose Norman remains stand ever watchful, or maybe the promise of 240 acres of woodlands, and countryside will tempt a visit to Etherow Country Park with an abundance of wildlife on offer. For a fascinating insight into times past Anson Engine Museum stands on the site of Anson Colliery, with a vast collection of engines that can often be seen running and evocative exhibits of the past.
