Ivinghoe is near the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire borders in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire. The nearest large town is Aylesbury and the closest train station is in Tring, 4 miles away. Accommodation is a Youth Hostel or the self-catering Lets Unlimited and Welcome Cottages. The church of St Mary the Virgin dates from 1241, although its bell tower wasn’t completed until about 1400. The properties around the village green provide spectacular examples of Tudor architecture and the Kings Head restaurant is a 16th century building opposite the green. The Ford End Water Mill is one of the few that is still working after being originally built in the 1700s. Located on the village outskirts, it is open with flour for sale on Sunday afternoons and Bank holidays, between May and September. There is also Pitstone Windmill close by, believed to be the oldest in Britain, owned and restored by the National Trust, it is open on Sundays and Bank holidays in the summer months too. Ivinghoe Beacon is near the village, a popular site for flying model aircraft and the starting point of Icknield Way, it was one of the ancient beacons sited across the land to signal approaching danger in the Iron Age. There is a golf course set in the lee of this beacon – a challenging 9 hole course in beautiful surroundings.
