East Linton is a small rural town in East Lothian in Scotland situated on the River Tyne between Haddington and Dunbar, 22 miles east of Edinburgh. During the 19th century the town had been an important agriculture centre hosting regular cattle markets and a milling centre with the mills powered by the fast flowing river. Surrounded by idyllic countryside East Linton is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base for touring Edinburgh and the Lothians. The town has hotels, award winning guest houses, B&B’s and self-catering accommodation as well as pubs, restaurants and a selection of shops. Historically interesting features include the 16th century Bridge over the Tyne gorge, the Parish Kirk of Traprain with chancel dating from the 13th century, the Phantassie Doocot and the17th century Preston Mill; one of the oldest working watermills in Scotland currently run by the National Trust of Scotland. Other attractions include The Museum of Flight, Scotland’s National Air Museum at East Fortune which has displays of over 50 vintage aircraft including a Concorde, a Spitfire and a Tigermoth. Two miles south-west on the River Tyne stands the impressive 13th century Hailes Castle. The Markie Fisheries offer fly and coarse fishing with tuition, coaching and equipment hire and there are also guided car and taxi tours available to explore the area.
