The pretty market town of Llanidloes is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and the warm welcome extended to visitors. Situated at the heart of Wales amid spectacular and beautiful landscape it is the first town on the River Severn and an exhilarating forest and mountain walk to its source is one of the delights awaiting you. It is an ideal base for leisure breaks and holidays being situated on two long distance footpaths (the Severn Way and Glyndwr's Way) and the national cycle route Lon Las Cymru. Nearby the Hafren Forest and Llyn Clywedog afford further opportunities to enjoy the beautiful countryside offering sailing, canoeing, fishing, cycling and walking.
Llanidloes is dominated by its famous 16th century half-timbered Old Market Hall - the only one of its kind left standing in Wales - in the centre of the town where the four main streets meet.
The town is steeped in history having been a thriving centre for the flannel and lead-mining industries and in 1839 was the scene of the Chartist riots which resulted in the transportation of three men to Australia. You can discover its colourful past at the local museum which houses a range of displays and exhibits including a two-headed lamb!
Take time out and visit Llanidloes with its many friendly pubs and restaurants and places to stay, you'll find it a fascinating and welcoming place. Population 3,000
