I can not speak to what anthing is like now but Halfway Inn was one of the absolute best places I ever went to when I was living at Newbury.
This restaurant helped make my years in England very wonderful.
I went there many times with friends British and American.

I could not recommend this pub/restaurant highly enough. Both myself and my family have visited it several times in the last 12 months and have never come away disappointed. The service is excellent, the staff are excellent and are always welcoming and organised. The homecooked menu is varied and always includes a vegetarian option. There is also a specials board. The meals are of ample size and are always very well presented. The desserts are never disapointing and the sunday roast melts in the mouth.
I have tried other pub/restaurants in the area but this has been the only one that has not left me feeling disappointed. 10 out of 10 I will continue to return.

Myself and 7 friends ate here tonight and came away very disappointed. I was especially disappointed as I had a very enjoyable meal there on 24 March 2007. In my meal the potatoes were cold. When this was reported to the waitress the meal was returned to the kitchen, the potatoes heated and the meal returned to me (without the cabbage I had put on the plate). The waitress appologised, but no change was made to the bill/ compensation offered. One of my friends had a steak which was very small and overdone, she left still feeling hungry. I had ice cream for pudding at £3.50 I was expecting a good ice cream. We received a very watery poor ice cream which tasted like a cheap ice cream from a large chain supermarket. Very dissappointing. On the bill we were overcharged for the ice cream. Unfortunately as we were a group of friends together none of us wanted to cause a fuss, but we all came awy very disappointed at what we had been served. A friend had 1/2 pint of diet coke and was charged £2.30, which seems rather excessive. We will not be returning to Halfway inn after this overpriced dissapointing experience.
