We eat here regularly, two bachelours looking for a substantial meal, veg, and no dishes to wash up. It's laid back here, no putting on airs....the food is great, just fine for the reasonable price which is STILL less than a tenner a head. For the Bath area that is excellent value. Hosts are friendly, but book as it gets busy.

well id like to defend the george and dragon as i am a regular at the pub and have lived in batheaston most of my life, i can honestly say that anyone who walks through the door is made to feel welcome from any walk of life unlikre some of the other clicky local pubs in the area. id also like to point out that the crown at bathford (mentioned in 1 of the other articles ) has in actual fact gone bust and i am pleased to say that the qualified chef who produced that beautiful food actually heads the kitchen at the geaorge and dragon now so any of u doubters should perhaps give my local pub a third chance you may be pleasantly suprised. also another chef who worked at the crown the lovely sammy ball has now taken over as manager of the george nd dragon what a great job she is doing already attracting new customers to the pub and believe me they come back, god we ve been looked after £2 a bottle of lager since and during the world cup started free food at half time of any england match plus a wide screen tv in the garden so we could all cheer on the boys in the sunshine. there are also special offers on luntchtime menus with meals starting from as little as £3.75 ideal for pensioners or any1 as they are filling and well worth it what a bargain. and as for entertainment since sammy has taken over we ve had karaokes, massive st george celebrations and this evening a brilliant reggae night where i am sure the g and d will be full of friendly locals having a good time, sucessful as these have been there now will b regularentertainment atleast once a month. i know that this is just the start of something special starting in this pub you see all these local pubs closing but i am pleased to see my local thriving so to all you doubters out there come back in and give it another go you will be made to feel welcome i think sammy and mickys hard work at least deserves this.

Nice to see reviews of this place. Strange that the Alex Baily review has similarities to a Si J review on another site (we love local) promoting the Crown Bathford. Alex uses "off of" and mentions the "House Menu" and the "Specials Board". Si [J] uses these and also is slightly illiter[a]te, using "off of", the "House Menu" and "Specials Board" on the welovelocal page. Both [s]ay "My Wife" when they are clearly ficti[o]nal characters. Si J also takes time out to slag off the George and Drago[n] here. Roger M on that site is also a big/ little fake.

Terrible! The food here was really bad. It is the second time we have been in here. We thought we would give it a second chance but the food was, although much better than the first time we visited, still very ropey. Food over cooked and under seasoned. The pub its self is quite nice to be fair, but I really wouldnt suggest you eat there. For an extra couple of quid you can get much better at any one of the food pubs in Batheaston, or in fact Bathford. Sorry, but my wife and I have given it a go twice now and just will not eat there again.

I am afraid to say that after going for Sunday lunch at the George and Dragon having moved recently to the Bathford area of Bath. I have to agree that the food really wasnt very good at all. There were three of us dining that day. Neither one of us will be eating there again. Ever ting was either over cooked or under cooked and without flavour. That being said the pub its self is pleasent enough but the food is quite bad. I have just came home today from lunch at another local actually slightly closer to home at the Crown Inn at Bathford just up from the George and dragon. The food here was a different kettle of fish altogether, showing that the food was prepared by a real chef with talent. My wife had Grilled perch fillet with Tuscan garlic, caper and tomato sauce off of the specials board and I had a buttnernut squash, smoked bacon and frsh sage risotto to start and pork and leek bangers and mash with caramilized onion gravy from the house Menu. Thumbs up For food, really tasty. George and dragon-will NOT eat there again ever...The crown on the otherhand will be seeing us again very soon to try what else their new chef has!

My Wife and I would like to defend the George & Dragon after reading the past 2 reviews. We moved to the village of Batheaston 18 months ago, from then to now we have eaten in the George sometimes twice a week, we have also had 2 parties there and with the help of the landlord had a terrific time on both occasions. My wife and I go on a regular basis for Sunday lunch which we are doing today, we have always been made welcome and the food has been outstanding. The early evening meals are great value and dam good food. We have just booked our family in for Christmas Day Dinner, which we are all looking forward to. Thanks, Phil & Bev and also the staff for making us welcome (always)

Myself and my girlfriend decided to go for a Sunday roast in a pub we've never tried before; we will never be going back to this one ever! After being given a choice of meats for the roasts, we waited 25 minutes before being served frozen roast potatoes, limp microwaved beef and cheap packet gravy. My girlfriend hardly ate any of it while I ate as much as I could muster (having had no breakfast I needed something!) and we waited for the waitress to take the plates and ask if there was a problem. Instead, she swept up all the plates without any questions. I did complain that the food wasn't great and my girlfriend wasn't happy. The waitress told me there was nothing she could do and I would still have to pay for each £8 roasts. I asked to see the manager, who muttered 'what's the matter?' and then blew up when my girlfriend quietly said she wasn't happy with the quality of the food. 'No-one else is complaining' he boomed across the restuarant in front all the other customers who were staring at their tables politely. 'The potatoes aren't frozen, I can show you the bag they came from.' I refused to pay for her meal, as by this point she was in tears from the telling off she had received for complaining. Never, in all my years working in catering, have I ever heard someone shout at a customer. I was disgusted by the poor food and shocked at the behaviour of the staff. As a tourist village, I am sure there will be many more who come across this and just hope they too have the guts to complain.

As we are locals, we use the George & Dragon from time to time. In the past the standards have been very high, the food good, and good service, untill today. The staff mixed up our order, the gravy was tasteless, the sweet order took over 5 minutes to arrive, and to cap it all, we had not finished the sweet when we were offered the bill. On this visit today, i brought a freind along to eat with us, as in the past we been very impressed with the service, but feel we were let down badly today. We will nver use this place again, nor will we advise our freinds to use it in the future
