Gareth Thomas

The most capped Welsh rugby player ever and one of the international game’s top 10 try scorers; captain of the British Lions; Grand Slam winner with Wales and Heineken Cup winner with Toulouse. Gareth Thomas: pugnacious; a brutal tackler; courageous - that courage shown to be moral as well as physical by his brave announcement last week about his sexuality. Prejudice won’t die overnight in sport, but it has been knocked backwards by Thomas as he still knocks opponents backwards in contact for Cardiff Blues and has for his entire career. He is certainly not the clichéd false stereotype of a gay man. We salute him for his awesome sporting prowess and his strength of character.
