Kate Middleton
Congratulations to Kate Middleton: the day is all but named. Ms Middleton has shown remarkable self-control during the somewhat protracted courtship, not to say dignity – most of us when bugged by massed paparazzi would have resorted to plain speaking. More of that dignity will be needed in the coming months: expect ill-mannered in-breds to speak disparagingly of someone whose parents had to make their own money. It’s to be hoped she will reflect, with all due modesty, that the royal family is very lucky to get her: given recent family baggage let’s hope they have the sense to see it that way too. But now those pesky little arrangements we all go through loom large: which heads of state will be attending; Westminster Abbey or St Pauls; and where to find what will be the most talked-of wedding dress for decades.
